How does a VCP3 holder update to VCP5?

When VMware launched the VCP5 certification back in August 2011 they offered those who already held the VCP3 a shortcut path to gaining VCP5, but as of March 1st 2012 those shortcut paths are no longer available.

The path to VCP5 that a VCP3 has to take is the same as it is for those who are new to VMware training/certification:

I would personally recommend the Fast Track out of the two course options above, it will prepare you more fully for the VCP5 exam and teach you many things that have changed since VI3.

  1. Hi,
I attended course vSphere 4:fast Track, but didn't went for VCP4 exam. Can I go directly to VCP5 without passing VCP4 exam?

  2. Hi Aleksandar. If you don't pass VCP4 you will need to attend the instructor-led vSphere 5: What's New course to qualify for VCP5. If you were to pass VCP4 you would not need to take a vSphere 5 course to qualify for VCP5, but only until the end of February 2012. Scott.

  3. Hi Scott,

Would appreciate if you could please let me know any economical options for attending a Vmware Certified VCP 5 so that I can appear for the VCP 5 exam. My budget is $2,000 plus the exam fee.

    Best Regards,
    Mo'

  4. Hi Mo, your only option for US$2,000 is to attend a course with an academic learning partner, those courses run over many weeks rather than just 5 days.

  5. Hi Scott,

Thanks for your reply. Where can I find an academic partner for Cleveland Ohio. Is there an option for attending these courses online. I'm fine even if these courses run over a long period of time.

    Cheers!

  7. Hey Scott...

I am a VCP3 in the ICM 5 course now and will test on Tuesday... My question is, Are there any VCAP5 classes or curriculum in the pipeline? I need to to get the cost info so that I can get it into the budget for next year.

    Thanks,
    Chris

  8. Hi Chris, yes there are advanced-level vSphere 5 courses in development right now - I'm friends with the manager at VMware responsible for this. There are other posts on my blog that refer to ICM2 and ICM3 courses. Hope the VCP went well! Scott.
