  4. Hi

I have completed VMware vSphere: Install, Configure, Manage V4.1, last year and I also have one VCP exam voucher, is it possible to use that voucher to seat for VCP 5. what is the requirement to seat for VCP 5 exam?

    ReplyDelete
  5. @Anonymous (Jan 19) - Yes your voucher can also be used to pay for the VCP5 exam, but you don't currently qualify for VCP5 certification. If you pass the VCP4 AND VCP5 exams before the end of February you will gain both certifications, otherwise you will have to attend the vSphere 5: What's New training course to qualify for VCP5 (you would only need to pass the VCP5 exam if you took that training course).

How much time it will take by pearson to send your certification.

  15. @Anonymous (Apri 16, 2012) - assuming you meet the training requirements for VCP5 then you should receive an email from VMware soon - that should be less than 2 weeks from when you passed, but as there have been so many VCP exams taken so far in 2012 there is a delay in the process.

    1. There's no such concept - you should have registered your attendance on your course on VMware's website - all official training providers are tasked with getting students to do that. VMware will check that data against your exam pass.

    1. At this time the exam is based on 5.0 - keep an eye on the exam blueprint in case it gets updated and 5.1 is specifically mentioned.

      Delete
    2. Does anyone know if the exam is still based on 5.0 and doesn't include the new components (SSO, new Web Client) introduced in vSphere 5.1? I noticed that they now link to all the 5.1 documents in the blueprint but their policy states they are neutral to 5.0 and 5.1. It seems like the Official VCP Certification book still is geared towards 5.0.

      Thanks You!

    3. The exam is version neutral, the items were reviewed and are applicable to elements common to 5.0 and 5.1. This is stated on the FAQ page for certification on VMware.com

  27. Hi Scott,

How difficult is it to appear for the exam without going through the dumps?
VMware is making it very hard to pass with the twisted questions..

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I don't agree that the questions are "twisted", they are very specific and cover all corners of the blueprint objectives. Using dumps is cheating, and very risky as they are so unreliable.

  28. Hello Scott, Hope u are doing great !

I have a project requirement to work on Vmware View and would like to know the path for gaining required knowledge for upcoming project as well as maintaining my skills for future jobs. Could you please tell me if VCP5 is recommended course/cert or I need to follow VCP5-DT ( VCP5 as pre-req per your blog) ?

    Please suggest !

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. There is an instructor-led course on View if you want that training - look at vmware.com/education for details. If you want to gain VCP5-DT certification you will need VCP5-DV first.

  29. Thank you Scott !

I forgot to mention that I am new to VMware though I am supporting Citrix XenDesktop based project where all VMs and ESX hosts are being maintained as infra.

So I might be familiar with consoles upto the use of my work but not for VMware foundation or VMware View (basics, in-depth - is what I am looking for ).

For the record, I got a book of ESX Server ( from Ron Oglesory and Scott Herold) and I found interesting to read. I hope I will finish it atleast to read main concepts (till 4 chapters or so).

Do you think it's nice start to first read ESX server and then I will go to VMware View foundation course on Vmware- mylearning ?

Thanks again for your suggestions !

    Replies
    1. Whilst not essential, I think it's better to learn about vSphere/ESXi before learning about View.

There are Install Configure Manage classes available for both vSphere and View, or video based training available from TrainSignal - but you'll need to do the official vSphere course if you want to gain your VCP-DV certification.

  33. Hi Scott

I have attend VCP5-DCV Vsphere 5 training course in India and I did the Exam in Vue for VCP5-DCV 510 and passed already ,

Is that Mean I am Already certified or I need again to attend the fast track in VMware ? !

If I need to attend the fast Track again in VMware how much does it cost.

    Please advise
    Thanks

    1. So long as it was an authorised course you attended then it sounds to me like you've met the certification requirements.

You should get an email from VMware a few days after passing the exam - it will ask you to confirm your shipping address and a couple of other things.

If you haven't received it after a week or so, email certification@vmware.com and ask the team to verify your status - give them information about your training and exam.

    Thanks for your Advise,

I have my exam scheduled in the month of August. Before that i will be taking the Fasttrack course for the same.
The thing is that i m just starting from the scratch,so will i be able to clear the exam after taking the required training in my first attempt.

    1. The training is to teach you about the product, not how to pass the exam.

I recommend you use 3 things to prepare yourself for the exam:

      1. The exam blueprint - to guide you
      2. The documentation - to study
      3. The software - to play

The blueprint really is key as it tells you the exam objectives - you can download it from vmware.com
